Overview
Dow Jones Indexes offers a range of real estate indexes that are tailored to meet a variety of investor needs. The real estate sector is defined according to the proprietary classification system used by Dow Jones Indexes. More-granular REIT indexes are available based on the Dow Jones Indexes REIT/RESI Industry Classification Hierarchy—an independent classification system designed specifically to meet the needs of REIT analysts and investors. The hierarchy provides classification of REITs into equity, mortgage, or hybrid REITs as reported in a company's regulatory filings; and further assigns REITs to a property type based on the primary focus of the REIT portfolio, as described by the company.

Dow Jones Select Real Estate Indexes℠
The Dow Jones Select Real Estate Index℠ family is a global series of focused indexes that measures the stock performance of REITs and real estate operating companies. The indexes are designed to serve as proxies for direct real estate investment, in part by excluding companies whose performance may be driven by factors other than the value of real estate.
To be included in the Dow Jones Select Real Estate Securities Indexes℠, a company must be both an equity owner and operator of commercial and/or residential real estate, as defined by the Dow Jones Indexes REIT/RESI Industry Classification Hierarchy. Currently available are the following indexes:

Dow Jones REIT Composite Index℠ contains all publicly traded U.S. REITs in the Dow Jones Indexes U.S. stock universe that are classified into one of three subcategories—equity, mortgage or hybrid—as defined by the Dow Jones REIT/RESI Industry Classification Hierarchy.
Also available is the Dow Jones Equity All REIT Index℠, a subset of the Dow Jones REIT Composite Index℠ that includes only those companies that have elected to be taxed as REITs and are classified as Equity REITs according to the Dow Jones Indexes REIT/RESI Industry Classification Hierarchy..
Dow Jones Real Estate Total Stock Market Indexes℠
The Dow Jones Real Estate Total Stock Market Indexes℠ are part of the Dow Jones Total Stock Market Index℠ family, which aims to provide comprehensive coverage of the global stock market, representing 65 countries and more than 98% of the world's market capitalization.
Included among the Dow Jones Real Estate Total Stock Market Indexes℠ are a full complement of Real Estate indexes as defined by Dow Jones Indexes´ proprietary classification system. The indexes are available at the global level, and for all countries and regions covered by the Dow Jones Total Stock Market Indexes℠.
